What’s A Compliance Notice?

How Do I Get A Compliance Notice?

A compliance notice or compliance letter, also called a clearance letter, is proof from the court that you have satisfactorily resolved an outstanding traffic charge.

You are likely to need a compliance notice if you have missed a court date for your traffic ticket or if you have a traffic warrant. Unpaid traffic charges or traffic warrants can cause a “hold” to be placed on your license, meaning your license will be suspended.

In order to obtain a compliance notice, you must first determine which court you need it from. Second, you must satisfy any requirements such as payment of fines, court costs, late fees and/or warrant fees.

The court will then either issue you personally with a compliance notice or fax it to the driver’s license authorities so the hold can be removed from your license and you can get reinstated.

You should be aware that if your license is currently suspended because of traffic warrants, it is not a good idea to simply plead guilty and pay the fines and court costs to get a compliance notice. By doing this, you will be adding new traffic convictions to your driving record which can cause your license to be suspended for even longer.  Consult with a traffic lawyer who can help you clear the holds from your record and also prevent new convictions.
